Arboretum Bolestraszyce

Arboretum Bolestraszyce is located 7 km from Przemyśl and was founded in 1975 and belongs to valuable monuments of nature and culture of Poland, fulfilling various tasks as: natural, cultural, didactic and scientific. The name Arboretum means a separate area where trees, bushes and shrubs are grown for scientific and breeding purposes. The historical assumption includes a park and a manor house, in which painter Piotr Michałowski lived and created in the mid-19th century. 

In the Arboretum, several thousand species, varieties, and plant forms have been collected, including dendrological, pomological, aquatic, swampy, rare, threatened, disappearing and protected in the Polish flora, heath, greenhouse, utility and biblical plants. Collected here are water and marsh plants. There are 2,200 trees and shrubs growing here; 1200, including about 600 native – herbaceous plants; 180 greenhouse plants. Rock gardens have been created in small areas. The collection of greenhouse plants gathers species from various climate zones, including the most numerous from the Mediterranean.

Each year, the Arboretum is visited by around 100,000 people and they are mostly schoolchildren. The Arboretum also has an Education Center for Cultural and Natural Heritage, which conducts various forms of educational activities (lessons, lectures, seminars, competitions, plein-airs, workshops, trainings) for school children and youth, students, teachers and other people interested.
